Students Impress at International Blood Bowl Championship
Over the bank holiday weekend, a group of Eltham College students travelled to Nottingham to compete in NAFC 2026, the largest individual Blood Bowl tournament ever held, with 313 players attending at the East Midlands Conference Centre. All students performed admirably, gaining valuable points against some of the strongest players in the world—an impressive achievement, particularly as many are relatively new to this highly strategic game.
Blood Bowl challenges participants to think critically, combining long-term strategy, tactical decision-making, and careful use of mathematical probability to guide in-game choices. Success relies on analysing risk, planning ahead, and adapting quickly to changing situations.
A special mention goes to Ted (Year 7), who achieved second place in a category recognising effective in-game play against opponents—an outstanding accomplishment in such a large and competitive field, especially at his first tournament. Etienne (Year 10) was leading the category of highest-placed U18 player for most of the tournament, but was just pipped to the trophy in the last two rounds.
Students also had the opportunity to appreciate the creativity on display in the best-painted team category, inspiring several to explore the artistic side of the hobby. The group returned having learned a great deal and are already looking forward to the next event.
