From Local Farms to School Lunch

This week, our school fruit and veg supplier spoke with pupils in the Quad to share the story behind the fresh produce used in our school meals. They spoke with students about the journey of locally grown fruit and vegetables and used a simple map to show where much of the food is grown in relation to our school, highlighting the farms that help supply our daily lunches.

Pupils were fascinated to discover that much of the produce comes from farms right here in the South East. Apples and raspberries are sourced from Tonbridge, while blackberries and strawberries come from farms near Maidstone.

A highlight was a colourful display of fresh fruit and vegetables in the Quad, where pupils were able to explore and taste a variety of produce. They enjoyed trying different items and asking questions about how they are grown, harvested and brought into school each day.

The session helped pupils connect with where their food comes from, supporting healthy eating and giving them a better appreciation of the farmers who help provide their school meals.
