Archive Pressure: Exhibition by David Hughes
The Gerald Moore Gallery is currently hosting Archive Pressure, a new exhibition by David Hughes, Eltham College’s Art Technician.
The exhibition explores how vast collections of everyday digital photographs can be transformed into new visual forms. Using thousands of publicly available eBay listing images, Hughes employs custom-built computational systems to reorganise and rework familiar objects, revealing unexpected patterns, connections and details that often go unnoticed.
Through a series of large-scale prints, moving image works and sculptural investigations, Archive Pressure examines how repetition, translation and accumulation can reshape our understanding of everyday imagery. The resulting works invite viewers to look beyond individual photographs and discover the hidden relationships that emerge across thousands of images.
The exhibition offers a fascinating insight into contemporary artistic practice and highlights the creativity and expertise that enrich life across the wider College community. Archive Pressure is open to the public on Saturdays from 10.00am to 4.00pm until 17 October.
