A group of our students and staff visited China as part of the international cultural initiative “Mountains and Seas in Stride, Peaceward We Glide.” The initiative is centred on a cross-country relay run involving participants from Eltham College and Chinese runners taking part in the programme.
The trip commemorated the 80th anniversary of the passing of Eric Liddell — Olympic gold medallist, missionary, and Old Elthamian.
During their stay in Weifang, known as the kite capital of the world, students and staff visited the Weifang Kite Museum, gaining insight into the city’s rich kite-making heritage. They also immersed themselves in a range of cultural experiences, from running events to virtual reality, and the intricate art of woodblock printing.
This memorable journey not only honours Liddell’s legacy but also strengthens the spirit of peace and global friendship — values at the heart of this international initiative.
