Eltham College Competes in Regional Debating Final

Eltham College’s debating team recently took part in the ESU’s MACE East London Regional Debating Final, marking the school’s fifth appearance in the regional finals over the past seven years. Throughout the competition, teams debated a range of motions, including “This House would tie government university funding to graduate employment outcomes” and “This House would legalise recreational marijuana for adults.” Eltham’s team opposed the motion “This House would ban private healthcare for procedures already covered by the NHS.”

Mr Cook praised the team for their excellent performances, highlighting their exceptional teamwork, clear speech structure and strong analytical skills. The standard of debate in the final was very high, and the competition remained close throughout. Despite their impressive efforts, the team narrowly missed the opportunity to progress to the Grand Final as East London champions this year.
