A Level Results 2024

This year, once again, the highest three grades – A*, A and B – proved the norm for Eltham College students, with no fewer than 91% of results falling within this top bracket. Indeed, more than two-thirds (68%) of grades were awarded at A*/A, while 29% of results attained the exceptional A* grade.

Fine performances across a full range of subjects saw almost one in every seven students (15%) achieve an outstanding suite of at least A*A*A* in their results. Unsurprisingly, the majority of students secured places at their first-choice university, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions.

Every student holding an offer for Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine achieved the results needed to secure their place, as did those heading on to study Mathematics. The arts also yielded places at first-choice institutions following exceptional results. In Art, no fewer than 83% of grades were at A* level; in Drama, more than half (53%) were likewise A*, and there was a clean sweep of A grades in Music. With our linguists similarly seeing 94% of their grades fall in the top A*/A tier, all those set to continue language study secured their university place, while geographers, too, were all smiles, after 90% of their grades reached A*/A.

Many Eltham College students secured a place at top universities like Oxbridge, Imperial College, Edinburgh, Bristol, Durham and Exeter to name a few. Watch below our students’ interviews where they share their enthusiasm and plans for the future.

GCSE Results 2024

Year 11 students at Eltham College celebrated an exceptional set of GCSE results, up against last year’s on every measure.

More than one-third (38%) of all results were at the highest grade, grade 9, with a further 28% awarded grade 8 –  two-thirds (66%) of grades thus being equivalent to an A* under the previous system, a seven-point improvement over 2023’s already excellent performance. Crucially, almost 9 in every 10 awards (88%) reached the all-important grade 7 to 9 tier (formerly A*/A), a results day record for the school (outside non-examined COVID times) since the implementation of numbered grades.

This fine achievement from the school’s last-ever boys-only cohort marked a fitting start to a new era for Eltham College, which will be co-educational in all year groups from September. The boys left an extraordinary legacy: almost a quarter of them achieved a clean sweep of grades 9 and 8, while across the whole cohort, more grade 9s were scored than any other single grade. No fewer than 50% of all Mathematics results were graded 9, with tremendous performances also seen in languages (47% grade 9), Physics (48% at grade 9), History (48% grade 9) and Art, where 54% achieved grade 9 and every single result fell into the A* equivalent, 8 to 9 tier. Watch our students’ interviews where they share their excitement for the future.
