Prospective medics, dentists and vets are supported through a range of activities. While a dedicated member of the teaching staff offers regular sessions designed to help students prepare for entrance exams, as well as understand how best to make a competitive application, the career learning programme provides a number of helpful interventions.

We have links with a number of medical schools, who visit to deliver informative talks, as well as alumni who are keen to mentor our students through the application process and beyond.

In June 2018, we hosted our inaugural ‘Applying for Medicine’ conference in partnership with the University of Leicester Medical School. Supported by current medical students and doctors from our alumni community, over 70 students from Eltham College and other local schools had the opportunity to hear about life as an undergraduate, as well as participate in a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) workshop.

Our work experience programme enables students to gain an additional two weeks’ placement during Lower Sixth Form, whilst community service  allows prospective medics, dentists and vets to further develop important transferrable skills such as empathy, communication and team working.
