Last term, our Year 8 students took part in an exciting eight-week marquetry coaster project. Under the guidance of our Design and Technology teacher, Sarina Howells, they explored the intricate art of marquetry, transforming wood veneers into unique pieces of functional art.
Drawing inspiration from contemporary designers, our students crafted coasters featuring diverse designs, from bold geometric patterns to subtle organic shapes. Each coaster showcased their individual artistic expression.
The process required precision as students meticulously applied wood veneer, allowing the natural grain to add depth to their creations. A final touch of Danish Oil enhanced the wood grain, bringing out the wood grain and adding a professional finish to their pieces.
Well done to our Year 8 students for presenting an exceptional collection of marquetry coasters.
