We’re delighted to share some exciting news from our Junior School. For the first time this year, Eltham College entered the ECF national girls’ school chess championships (Under 11) with a formidable team consisting of Aayat (Year 6), Amelia (Year 4) and Yueci (Year 5).

The journey began back in January when our pupils took part in a qualifying event and made it through to the finals which took place at St Catherine’s School, Bramley on the 6th and 7th April. After the long and challenging weekend where our pupils faced off against nine competitors, we’re incredibly proud to announce that our team emerged as the national champions, with an outstanding record of 22 wins, one draw, and only four defeats in the 27 individual games played. This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication and talent of our girls, as well as the exceptional coaching and support they received along the way.

This victory holds special significance as it marks the first time Eltham College has secured a primary-age national competition title for girls. It’s a historic moment that deserves to be celebrated and cherished by our entire school community.

Congratulations to Aayat, Amelia, Yueci, and everyone involved in this remarkable success!
